Ubisoft have announced that, to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja (Hero) Turtles, they will be releasing a new Ninja Turtles game.
Releasing on Wii this fall, the game doesn’t yet have an official title, but what is known is that it will include characters and locations from the history of the franchise, while gameplay will consist of four-player battles, ala Super Smash Bros.
Members from Team Ninja (Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive) will assist while Game Arts, a contributing studio to the development of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, will handle development duties. CEO of Mirage Studios, rights holder of the Ninja Turtles license, Gary Richardson said:
“We’re really excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first TMNT® comic and we have a number of radical ‘Shell-ebration’ events planned for 2009. The awesome new video game that Ubisoft will release in 2009 is an important part of celebrating this Turtles milestone with fans around the world.”
