PS3 headset detailed, priced

Earlier in the week we reported Sony’s plans to release the official PlayStation 3 Bluetooth Headset in Japan. The headset will be released alongside SOCOM: US Navy Seals Confrontation in the land of the rising sun on the 30th of October but will also be available on its own.

Sony has since announced that the headset will be available in the SOCOM: Confrontation bundle this October in North America for $59.99. The headset will also be available as a standalone peripheral in the US this fall and will retail at $49.99.

PS3 headsetThe headset features a mute button and a charging cradle. Conveniently it will work with your PS3 as well as with Bluetooth enabled cell phones. Speaking on SCEA’s PlayStation Blog Sony revealed that more features will be unlocked by the PS3 through a firmware update in the fall.

Sony announced that the headset will feature a High-Quality mode that will ensure a better voice chat quality on the PS3 thanks to “advanced voice technologies and noise cancellation techniques.” This mode will also enable accurate speech recognition for voice commands to be used in-game with certain PS3 games supporting a larger vocabulary.

You can keep an eye on the headset’s connection status, battery charge level, speaker volume level and microphone mute status because the PS3 will display an in-game status indicator exclusively for the headset. The headset will also work as a desktop microphone while charging in the dock.
