Nintendo’s Pokémon Platinum remains in the top spot on the Japanese software chart for the second week in a row. The popular DS title, known as Pocket Monsters Platinum in Japan, sold 315 000 copies after debuting at number 1 last week with 963 000 copies.
Namco Bandai’s Dragonball DS enters the chart at number 2 with 72 000 copies while Nintendo’s Rhythm Tengoku Gold for the DS climbs two places to number 3 with 63 000 copies. Namco Bandai boasts another new entry at number 4 with Trusty Bell for the PS3 which debuts with 34 000 copies.
Konami’s Quiz Magic Academy for the DS drops three spots to number 5 in its second week with 29 000 copies while Nintendo’s Wii Fit still keeps up the pace at number 6 with 28 000 copies. Marvelous’ Hitman Reborn for the PSP debuts at number 7 with 25 000 copies and Spike’s Shinobido PSP is the last of this week’s new entries at number 8 with 17 000.
One Piece Unlimited Cruise: Episode 1, Namco Bandai’s third title in the Top 10, drops from its debut at number 4 last week to number 9 with 15 000 copies. Nintendo’s Mario Kart Wii rounds off the Top 10, losing two places at number 10 with 14 000 copies.
Four titles drop out of the Top 10 this week. Nintendo’s Daigasso! Band Brothers DX for the DS drops from last week’s number 9 to number 12 while Square Enix’s Infinite Undiscovery for the Xbox 360 drops to number 13 after debuting at number 3 last week with 90 000 copies. Konami’s J-League Winning Eleven 2008 Club Championship for the PS2 drops four places to number 14 and Konami’s D. Gray Man: Sousha no Shikaku, also for the PS2, drops out of the Top 30 completely after debuting at number 7 last week.
Last week the DS dominated, outselling both the Wii and PSP by two to one. The real surprise last week was the Xbox 360 which outsold the PS3 with 28 000 units, thanks to a price cut and the release of Infinite Undiscovery.
Will the DS control the chart again this week and will the Xbox 360 outsell the PS3 for another week in a row? Stay tuned for the hardware figures which will be released tomorrow to find out. Until then content yourself with browsing last week’s hardware and software charts.
