Japanese Sales Data: Media Create software sales for 1/9 – 7/9

Nintendo’s Rhythm Tengoku Gold spent another week on top of the Japanese software chart for the week ending the 7th of September. In a relatively low-selling week, the DS title topped the chart with 55 000 copies sold according to Media Create. Its total of 668 000 copies sold is already more than double the original title on the Game Boy Advance and it looks set to reach the coveted 1 million.

Wii Fit somehow climbs back in to second place over 9 months since it was first released, selling 32 000 copies in the week, up from fifth last week with a very slight increase in sales. Blue Dragon Plus for the DS managed to enter the charts this week in third place with 21 000 copies sold, which is significantly less than the original Xbox 360 game achieved when it was released.

Sony’s latest PS3 release, Afrika managed to stay in the top five with 19 000 copies sold this week for a total of 57 000 copies so far. The PS2 also boasted a top five title again in J-League Winning Eleven 2008 Club Championship which sold 18 000 copies.

The new DS Fire Emblem re-entered the chart at number 6 with 17 000 copies sold after a restock, while Dragon Quest V (DS) continues to chart well at 7th with 15 000 in sales.

Daigasso! Band Brothers DX, Nintendo’s other rhythm game for the DS, climbs back into the top 10 after a break last week with 15 000 in sales, while Mario Kart Wii continues its climb to 2 million in 9th position. Level 5’s new RPG, Inazuma Eleven for the DS rounds out the top 10 with third week sales of 14 000 for a total of 85 000.

Finally, two of last week’s new titles dropped out of the top ten - Battlefield: Bad Company from 7th last week to 15th this week, and Fate/Tiger Colosseum Upper from 4th last week to 16th this week. Phantasy Star Portable also dropped from 9th to 11th after many weeks in the top ten.
