This week the Top 10 of the software chart features a game from each console as well as five new entries.
Sega’s Phantasy Star Universe for the PSP debuts in the top spot with 342 000 copies followed by Nintendo’s Rhythm Heaven Gold for the DS with 213 000 copies. Square Enix’s Dragon Quest V for the DS sold 112 000 copies to secure third place, dropping after two weeks spent at number 1. Now in its third week of release, its life-to-date sales stand just shy of 1 million at 946 000 copies.
The PS3 version of Namco Bandai’s Soul Calibur IV enters the charts at number 4 with 75 000 copies. The Xbox 360 version debuts a little lower at number 6 with 35 000 copies, meaning the PS3 version outsold the 360 version by nearly 2:1. However, it is being reported that the 360 version almost sold out on the first day and the 35 000 copies moved were close to the recorded first day sales.
Konami’s Powerful Pro Baseball 15 for the PS2 drops three places to number 5 with 37 000 copies while Nintendo’s Fatal Frame IV for the Wii debuts at number 7 with 33 000 copies. Nintendo occupies the next two spots with staples Wii Fit at number 8 and Mario Kart Wii at number 9 with 32 000 and 23 000 copies respectively. Namco Bandai’s Gundam Battle Universe for the PSP moves down seven places to number 10 with 21 000 copies.
Nintendo’s Wario Land: Shake It! drops from its debut at number 8 last week to number 11 while SCEI’s Siren: New Translation for the PS3 loses ground, moving down to number 12 after entering the charts last week at number 5. Takara Tomy’s Katekyoo Hitman Reborn! DS Flame Rumble Hyper for the DS is at number 15 after debuting at number 6 last week while the Wii version of Konami’s Powerful Pro Baseball 15 drops from last week’s number 10 to number 17. Falcom’s Eiyuu Densetsu: Sora no Kiseki the 3rd for the PSP is the last of the fallers this week, down to number 21 after entering the charts at number 4.
Initial reports of hardware figures indicate that although the PSP is still on top, the DS is closing the gap and running a close second. The Wii, PS3 and PS2 seem to have sold pretty much the same as last week while the Xbox 360 continues its selling spree and again increases its sales this week. Stay tuned for the official hardware sales which will be released tomorrow.
Can’t wait till then for more sales goodness? No problem, check out last week’s software and hardware chart.
