According to a recent list posted by Famitsu magazine (translated by Kotaku), Capcom has claimed three of the top five PSP games in Japan.
Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G is the top selling PSP game in Japan. Released in March 2008 the title has sold 2.396 million copies. Second on the list is Monster Hunter 2nd which has sold 1.706 million copies since its release in February 2007. Square Enix’s Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII comes in third with 790 705 copies sold since September 2007 while Monster Hunter Portable is fourth with 668 964 copies sold since December 2005. Sega’s Phantasy Star Portable finishes fifth with 545 242 copies sold since its release in July 2008.
Looking at the above figures you will notice that not only did Capcom claim first, second and fourth place, but that all three were Monster Hunter Portable games, showing just how popular the Monster Hunter series is in Japan.
