The Nintendo DS took top honours on the Japanese hardware chart again this week, selling 78 666 units for the week ending the 17th of August. The DS shot up roughly 18 000 units, spurred on by happy Japanese holiday shoppers.
All the consoles experienced an increase in sales this week, except the Xbox 360 which plummeted from 24 962 units last week to just 7 358 units. This drop is hardly surprising given that Microsoft earlier announced that the 360 had in fact sold out in Japan and that no new stock would be available until September.
The PSP came second with 64 413 units, followed by the Wii with 53 036 units. While the PSP experienced a slight sales increase of roughly 6 000 units, the Wii shot upwards with 14 500 more units sold this week.
The PS3 settled back into fourth place, selling 11 393 units, followed by the PS2 with 10 168 units, both up from last week’s 9 673 and 8 503 respectively.
Be sure to check out the software chart from this week and stay tuned for more sales antics next week.
