Last week Telltale Games revealed a new episodic series based on the popular Wallace & Gromit franchise.
Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures will be based on the crazy inventor and his trust canine made famous by Aardman Animations. Players will be able to step into the shoes of both Wallace and Gromit, spending each episode exploring, piecing together contraptions and escaping trouble.
The game will combine the storytelling that the Wallace & Gromit series is known for with fun game play and Telltale’s unique TV-style format.
Telltale Games has released a cinematic teaser trailer to give a taste of what’s in store for us. The trailer is rendered with game assets because in-game is not ready to be shown yet. The Telltale Team also confirmed that they are using the same 3D engine that is used in all of their games, they are not using digitally recorded stop animation of clay.
Telltale is no stranger to episodic series, with the Sam & Max series already under their belt and Strong Bad’s Game for Attractive People on the way to WiiWare and PC. This new series is one of several upcoming Wallace & Gromit releases, with the duo set to return to TV with a new short by Aardman titled “A Matter of Loaf and Death.” Fans should also keep an eye out for DVD compilations of the best shorts which will be hitting shelves soon.
“Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures extends our vision for delivering new kinds of entertainment to everyone who enjoys a good story,” says Telltale’s CEO and co-founder Dan Connors.
“Wallace & Gromit has a long history of entertaining people of all ages, and the world Aardman has created is rich with humor and storytelling possibilities. Our team has been enjoying the process of adapting this series for new audiences, and we look forward to reintroducing it to long-time fans in the episodic format that Telltale has been innovating.”
According to Sean Clarke, Head of Marketing & Licensing at Aardman, “Wallace and Gromit are much-loved characters with cross generational appeal who will work perfectly in this kind of game-playing environment.”
