Majesco Entertainment have announced that Bananagrams, “The award-winning anagram game that will drive you bananas,” will be coming to Facebook.
Bananagrams gives players a set of letter tiles from a central tile pile, with which they need to form words. The thing is, all of the players will be placing their tiles at the same time, creating interconnected words simultaneously, instead of in a turn-based manner. Once the available tiles from the central pile are used up, the first player to use their own tiles wins. This sounds familiar…
Facebook players can play solo or with up to eight people online, while also having access to two single player modes to hone your skills or to try and beat word-creation times set by your friends. Bananagrams will be available as a FaceBook application on August 18th. Mark you calendars!

This is a very smart move for Banadagrams
It's funny.
I'm a board game publisher ( http://www.gifttrap.com/ ) and I'm sure they have ben thinking about grabbing some of the Scrabulous pie besfore Hasbro munches it up
I have total respect for the Scrabulous guys. We created a Facebook app in the vein of Free Gifts to help promote our game but getting your social app moving is no mean feat. Translating a board game to an online game is far from obvious.
The Free Gifts apps get 100k daily active users on Facebook, which is pretty cool. Our game precedes Free Gifts, but you can’t fight the viral nature and you’ve got to be first on the right platform.
Check out our app here; http://apps.new.facebook.com/gifttrap/
Unlike the Free Gifts app your friend gets to choose their own gift, the question is will you match. We have turned virtual gifts into a game.
The GiftTRAP board game is on sale in Barnes and Noble right now which is pretty cool (no doubt next to Scrabulous as we share the same distributor).
I hope Facebook doesn't drop Scrabulous. My sense is they will, but it's hard to call.
Either way I'm sure Scrabulous will pick up a good number of users.
GiftTRAP sounds great, Nick. I'll be sure to try it out.
Have you tried Pictionary (I think that's the official name - I saw my brother playing it)? I just saw so many people interacting with each other at such great pace, real-time, and it just struck me as how that really seems like a very good use of social networking tools to play games.
I wonder if Scrabulous will be forced off Facebook... it all depends on the adoption of Scrabble by Facebook users and whether or not Hasbro think they have enough of the pie. They seemed to tone down their hissy-fit once Scrabble went up and now they're kicking it back up again.
Bananagrams is now live on Facebook:

The game is fantastic! I'm a big fan of Scrabble and word puzzles, and the fast pace of this game definitely keeps it fun and challenging.
The features include a public room where you can play anyone online, a room to challenge your friends, and the ability to send challenges to be played anytime. Not only can you play your friends in a live game, there is an option to chat during the competition.
Another awesome feature is the ability to revise the entire word structure if you have a surprise difficult letter at the end of the game. There are also options for solitaire, and one can choose a long or short game, and if they want to play against a clock.
It's an awesome game, and will likely find a large audience of fans.
