Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop for the Wii detailed

Dead Rising for the Wii was first revealed through scans from Famitsu magazine. Initial reports suggested that the game would only be released in Japan, however, Capcom of America opted for the “no news on DR for any other platforms at this time” answer rather than denying that Dead Rising for the Wii would come to the West.

Recently the latest cover of Nintendo Power magazine surfaced, revealing not only Sega’s Sonic and the Black Knight, but also identifying the title of the Zombie infestation on the Wii to be Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop.

Capcom has now officially unveiled that Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop is in development for the Wii. The game is scheduled to be released this winter.

Based on the popular Dead Rising for the Xbox 360 (which has sold over one million units since it was released in 2006), the game uses the same engine as Resident Evil 4 Wii edition to deliver a more “immersive, intuitive and interactive experience” as players shoot and slash their way through hordes of zombies using the Wii Remote.

The game sees players stepping into the shoes of freelance journalist Frank West as he follows a lead to the small town of Willamette. He gets more than he bargained for when he discovers that the town has been overrun by zombies, forcing him to escape to a shopping mall.

West soon discovers that the mall is also infested with zombies and must now fight them off using real and makeshift objects available in the stores. Players will need to complete a series of individual cases in the game to uncover the truth behind the zombie epidemic. West will also need to decide which residents to save, depending on a players skill some may not make it as each rescue needs to be undertaken in a set period of time.

It’s not just about serious Zombie fighting action though, a player’s ability to dress Frank up in various costumes and fight the hordes with sometimes ineffective weapons, such as a football, will provide a bit of comedic relief.

The game promises a new level of interaction thanks to added Wii Remote functionality - aim and fire guns, throw weapons and shake off zombies using the Wii Remote. Players will be able to explore various locations, both indoor and outdoor areas of the mall, using anything in the mall including store items, such as golf clubs and frying pans, and environmental objects, such as umbrellas and benches, to fight the zombies.

The game promises non-stop action with hordes of zombies on screen at once and delivers improved save functionality and the ability to revive Frank’s health by eating or drinking food.
