Sega has announced Sonic and the Black Knight will be arriving exclusively on the Wii in spring 2009.
Earlier reports of Sonic adorning the cover of the latest Nintendo Power magazine hinted at the existence of the game.
Sonic and the Black Knight will be part of the storybook series of games that began with Sonic and the Secret Rings. Created by Sonic Team in Japan, the game will make use of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk and promises to bring a “new twist to Sonic game play by combining Sonic’s legendary speed with frenetic swordplay action.”
Set in a medieval world, the game sees Sonic armed with a sword as he embarks on a series of missions to become a knight and save the day.
“After the success of Sonic and the Secret Rings we’re delighted to announce a second title in the Storybook Series,” said Gary Knight, European Marketing Director, SEGA Europe, “Following Sonic on his way to knighthood will excite players of all ages.”

Comments:
I remain skeptical...I've played a fair amount of Sonic, and they pretty much started the road to suckage with Sonic 3D for the Genesis. I thought that things might have improved with the PS2 version of Sonic Heroes, but that wasn't too brilliant either. Mind you, it wasn't so awful as to be unplayable, but the mechanics of the game left a lot to be desired.
More recently, I've been playing Sonic Rush Adventure DS, and I'm pleased by the return to the side scrolling basics. What I've found off-putting about the game is the constant need to return to levels that you've already finished—it's a lazy (and lousy!) way to add hours and playability to a game!
So to Sonic and the Black Knight—I don't know about well this will work. The addition of humans to the Sonic universe seems to detract from the overall Sonic charm, and I thought the whole point of Sonic was SPEED. If I wanted swordplay, I'd replay Zelda: Twilight Princess.
I believe that sonic and the black knight is going to better than sonic and the secret rings. They got a new sonic team and they are listening to the fans. They are going include some things from sonic and the secret rings and add some new features. Don't make any judgments until the trailers of sonic and the black knight and of course your final judgment when the game comes out spring of 2009
