Japanese Sales Data: Media Create software sales for 16/6 – 22/6

Namco Bandai’s Super Robot Wars A Portable for the PSP debuts at the top of the Japanese software chart for the week ending the 22nd of June, knocking Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriot into second place after just one week at the top.

Super Robot Wars A Portable sells 102 000 copies while MGS4 drops from last week’s massive debut of 465 000 copies to 68 000 copies this week. Nintendo’s Super Mario Stadium Family Baseball (known as Mario Super Sluggers in the US and Europe) enters the chart at number 3 with 58 000 copies while Koei’s Harulanaru Toki no Naka de 4 for the PS2 debuts at number 4 with 55 000 copies.

Nintendo’s Mario Kart Wii drops three places to number 5 with 33 000 copies and Nintendo’s Wii Fit moves down three places to number 6 with 32 000 copies. Capcom’s Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G for the PSP drops two places to number 7 with 21 000 copies. Wii Fit manages to keep ahead of MHP2G in terms of life-to-date sales for another week, with Wii Fit now standing at 2.258 million and MHP2G at 2.224 million copies.

Konami’s Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 3 for the PSP drops to number 8 with 19 000 copies while Nintendo’s Beautiful Letter Training for the DS loses just one place to finish ninth with 18 000 copies. Sega’s Let’s Make a Pro Baseball Team for the DS rounds off the top ten with 11 000 copies.

The software chart is certainly interesting this week with three new entries. The real test will be what effect the three PSP titles in the Top 10 (including a number 1 title recording sales of over 100 000 copies) in conjunction with the sharp drop in MGS4 sales will have on the hardware chart tomorrow.

There is no doubt that the PS3 will experience a drastic drop in sales from last week’s record 75 311 units. Early estimates place the figure at roughly 24 000 units which would mean the PS3 would plummet down the hardware chart behind the PSP, Wii and Nintendo DS but still be placed well ahead of the PS2 and Xbox 360.
