Shortly after Microsoft announced that the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV had outsold the PS3 version in the UK, Microsoft’s Gamerscore blog announced that the Xbox 360 had also triumphed in the US.
According to Microsoft sales data from last week, sales of the Xbox 360 console at retail increased by 54% week-over-week as a result of GTA IV. Microsoft cites retailer reports that “more than 60% of all GTA games sold in the first week were the Xbox 360 version.” In addition information from retailers suggests that approximately 40% of new consoles are selling with a copy of GTA IV.
The blog post also reveals that over 2.3 million people played GTA IV on Xbox Live in the first week leading to the game now ranking as the number one played game on Xbox Live. The Xbox Live service reached 1 million concurrent users over the weekend while over 12 million achievements worth over 100 million gamerscore points in GTA IV have been unlocked.
The game has also set a new record for time played, the average gamer spent over four hours playing GTA IV on Xbox Live in the first week.

Really? Wow. Could that possibly be because there are more 360s out there than PS3s? It's not exactly a revelation to see that it sold more on the 360.
it should also be noted that a 54% increase in hardware sales is not that much. They've barely been selling any units and a raise of 54% is hardly significant. from what I can see everyone who is going to buy an xbox already has.
Have to agree with the 2 posters before me.
Everyone knew the 360 was going to shift more units because of the larger install base in NA. And the UK probably has a larger install base too, mainland Europe is a differant matter however.
I see the retarded PS3 fanboys and Nintendo zombies are out in force here, with their usual rubbish To the poster "calem" above who claimed that the 360 has "barely been selling any units ", it might be worth pointing out that that the 360 has oustold the PS3 in every single month in the US since the PS3 was launched, apart from just 2 months when the PS3 outsold the 360 by a tiny figure, and even then that was when the 360 was in short supply. Also worth pointing out that in addiotion to the 54% rise in 360 sales in the US, the 360 also experienced a massive 125% rise in sales in the UK after the GTA IV launch, and that was in addition to the earleir 100% increase in 360 sales in the UK after the price cut a few seeks back.
