Miyamoto tops Time 100

Shigeru Miyamoto has topped Your Time 100, Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2008 list. The official results page reads “Time asked who you thought should be on the list of the 100 most influential people of the year. Over 200 candidates were given a rating of 1 to 100. And your #1 choice? Shigeru Miyamoto!”

Miyamoto secured almost 2 million votes (1 974 651 to be exact), placing him 300 000 votes ahead of runner-up Korean pop singer Rain (1 555 867 votes) who bested Stephen Colbert (904 523 votes).

Harmonix co-founders Alex Rigopulos and Eran Egozy also featured on the list. The duo well deserved a mention since they created Rock Band and Guitar Hero. A tribute written by Steven Van Zandt, lead guitarist of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, calls them “the Batman and Robin of Harmonix, who, with the video games Guitar Hero and now Rock Band, may have saved classic rock for generations to come.”
