Sega has partnered with PlatinumGames in an exclusive four-game deal. PlatinumGames will develop three new Sega titles, Madworld, Infinite Line and Bayonetta, as well as a fourth title that has yet to be announced but will be directed by Shinji Mikami.
Clover Studio, a subsidiary of Capcom, was responsible for Okami for the PS2, Viewtiful Joe and God Hand. It was home to Atsushi Inaba (producer of Viewtiful Joe), Shinji Mikami (creator of Resident Evil), and Hideki Kamiya (director of Devil May Cry and Okami). The studio closed in 2006 and ex-key members of Clover Studio started Seeds which later merged with ODD to form PlatinumGames in Osaka, Japan.
Madworld is a third person action game headed to exclusively to the Wii in Quarter 1 of 2009. The game is produced by Resident Evil creator Atsushi Inaba and will feature a black and white style to best express the red blood. All the colour was removed from the game except the blood to best convey the blood and themes of brutality and exhilaration.
It also features touches from comics such as exclamation marks during action scenes. The brutality is designed to provide the player with a sense of exhilaration. For example a player will pull a ‘Stop’ street sign and shove it into an enemies head instead of a knife.
Players will battle opponents using various weapons and items found in the environment such as chainsaws and street signs. The game is said to feature entertaining sports commentary, irreverent humour and over-the-top violence. It is currently slated to be released across North America and Europe with a Japanese release yet to be dated.
Infinite Line (working title) is a RPG headed exclusively to the Nintendo DS in 2009. The game takes place in outer space and allows players to create and customize their own spaceship. In addition to over 150 spaceships and 200 characters, players will be able to control multiple spaceships at one time. The game is currently being produced by Atsushi Inaba and directed by Hifumi Kouno (from developer Nude Maker). It will be released across Europe, North America and Japan.
Directed by the creator of Devil May Cry Hideki Kamiya, Bayonetta is a 3D action game headed to the Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2009. The game sees a witch facing angelic enemies making use of the weapons on her feet.
