Xbox 360 sells 19 mil worldwide, tops 10 mil in US

Microsoft has announced that the Xbox 360 has sold over 10 million units in the US. This makes it the first current-generation gaming console to break the 10 million mark in the US. The Xbox 360 has sold 19 million units worldwide.

“This year will be the largest in the history of the video game industry, with Xbox 360 leading the charge in the U.S. and abroad,” said Don Mattrick, senior vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft.

“History has shown us that the first company to reach 10 million in console sales wins the generation battle. We are uniquely positioned to set a new benchmark for the industry.”

Released late in April, Grand Theft Auto IV has boosted the Xbox Live global membership to more than 12 million this month.

According to Microsoft, the Xbox 360 has the highest software attach rate and boasts over 16 titles that have sold over 1 million units, (including Halo 3, Gears of War, Call of Duty 4 and Guitar Hero III) giving it twice as many platinum-selling titles as the Wii and a 16:2 lead over the PS3.
