Nintendo’s Mario Kart Wii has topped the UK’s All Formats Chart for a second week in row, this despite a 22% decrease in sales.
According to Chart Track, the All Formats Top 5 was comprised of games by four different Japanese publishers: Nintendo, Sega, Sony and Konami. Apart from Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, the top four games are all selling the strongest on the Wii. The dominance of the Wii looks set to continue next week with the release of Nintendo’s highly anticipated Wii Fit.
Mario and Sonics’ popularity continues, apart from the duo’s Olympic performance moving up once place to number 2, either Mario or Sonic feature in six games in the All Formats Top 30. Sony’s Gran Turismo 5: Prologue drops one place to number 3 while Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 keeps up the pace at number 4 for a fourth week in a row.
Sega Superstars Tennis moves up six places to number 5 due to retailer promotions. Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 drops one place to number 6 while Activision’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare rises to number 7 from last week’s number 9.
EA boasts the highest new entries with UEFA Euro 2008 Austria-Switzerland (available on multiple formats) debuting at number 8 and The Sims 2: Kitchen and Bath Interior Design Stuff on the PC at number 20.
Movers and shakers
Nintendo’s Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training re-enters the Top 10, up three places to number 9 while Activision’s Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock drops two places to number 10.
Nintendo’s Wii Play drops from last week’s number 7 to number 11, Take 2’s Carnival: Funfair Games moves down two places to number 12 while Sega’s Condemned 2 plummets seven places to number 13.
Ubisoft’s Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 is this week’s highest climber, moving up from last week’s number 32 to number 22 due to bundling. The only other new entry to make it into the Top 40 this week is Sony/Namco’s Time Crisis 4 which debuts at number 24.
