Hudson’s classic shooter Star Solider R will be blasting on to North America’s WiiWare service. The game has not yet been priced.
Described as a “tournament-style outer space shooter,” Star Solider R challenges players to achieve high scores in a 2 Minute or 5 Minute mode.
2-Minute mode gives players just enough time to battle through one stage and face one boss while 5-Minute mode adds a second level and another boss. Players can adopt different strategies to earn bonus points in both modes. The game also includes Quick Shot mode where players can test how quick their reflexes are as well as online leaderboards.
Star Soldier R features a top-down perspective, with players flying from the bottom of the screen towards the top, shooting ships and structures that block the path. Players can increase their weapon or shield strength by collecting power-ups. Players can also collect up to five orbiting satellites with the new Force System, these can be used for defense or additional firepower.
Players can choose from three control schemes, either the Nunchuk and Wii Remote, holding the Wii Remote sideways or the Classic Controller.
Nintendo’s WiiWare service is scheduled to be launched on the 12th of May across North America.
“There is a lot of excitement surrounding WiiWare and we are proud that Star Soldier R will be one of the titles available on the platform,” said John Greiner, President and CEO of Hudson Entertainment. “For Hudson, the potential of WiiWare is endless, and gamers can be certain that we will be bringing additional content to WiiWare in the coming months.”
