The next PS3 firmware update, version 2.30, will include a revamped PlayStation Store. Sony of Europe today announced that this update will be available on the 15th of April (which date was previously hinted at by Sony of Japan). Head over to SCEA’s PlayStation blog for a video demo featuring Grace Chen that showcases the new interface.
The new look PlayStation Store will deliver a better user interface, improved navigation, greater scope for categorization and more functionality.
Sony also announced that the system software update will add DTS-HD Master Audio output for Blu-ray videos. This technology delivers audio at the rate of 24.5 mega-bits per second on Blu-ray disc, higher than a standard DVDs. It will also offer 7.1 audio channels at 96k sampling frequency/24 bit depths. In addition the update will add DTS-HD High Resolution Audio which takes up less disc space.
To celebrate the launch, new content will become available from the 17th of April. This will include the launch of the Metal Gear Online Beta, gearing up for the launch of MGS4 in June.
Players can also look forward to Warhawk: Operation Broken Mirror and Lair: Diabolical Dragons Pack and Skyguard Upgrade Pack, new trailers including the latest GTA IV trailer and a demo for Sega Superstars Tennis.
