Microsoft is clamping down on gamers who tamper with their Gamerscore and Achievements on Xbox Live. Xbox Live’s Larry Hryb (aka Major Nelson) confirmed that Microsoft has taken action on the most serious offenders’ accounts.
Last year November Microsoft issued a warning against account sharing as well as gamerscore and achievement tampering.
Hryb commented “Let me be more clear: If you use tampered gamesaves to boost your Achievements and Gamerscore, you may sign in to Xbox LIVE one day and discover that we have removed your Gamerscore. Once we do that, you will never be able to re-earn those achievements on that account. Even worse, you might have your account and/or console banned from Xbox Live.”
As promised Microsoft has taken steps and reset the entire Gamerscore of these accounts to zero. Hryb confirmed that “the account will be unable to regain all previously obtained achievements and Gamerscore, however, the players will have the ability to gain future Achievements by earning them fairly, like the majority of the Xbox LIVE community does.”
In addition Microsoft has ensured that the community can see who the offenders are by labeling the account as a cheater on Xbox.com as well as the personal view of the gamercard being labeled in dash with the words “I’m a dirty cheater” marked across the image space. There is no way to appeal the decision of the gamerscore correction.
Hyrb commented “Xbox LIVE remains committed to keeping the service free of cheating in order to maintain a fair and level playing field for everyone.”
