Microsoft and Bungie have announced that new downloadable content for Halo 3 will become available on Xbox Live Marketplace on the 15th of April. The Legendary Map Pack will introduce three new multiplayer maps, Ghost Town, Avalanche and another map which has yet to be revealed. It will cost 800 Microsoft Points.
Avalanche
The second map to be detailed is Avalanche, a “massive, vehicle-orientated map” that features new interiors, exteriors that have been reshaped along with new vehicles. The map is a “reimagination” of Sidewinder from Halo: Combat Evolved, “it has the same familiar U-shape, multiple ways from base-to-base, and a whole sandbox full o’ vehicles to play with.” A comprehensive rundown of Avalanche can be found on Bungie’s official website.
The first map in the pack was detailed in February but here’s a quick synopsis. Just outside the city of Voi lies Ghost Town, a network of narrow passages and treacherous ruins. Gamers will get adequate cover from “collapsed ceilings and shell-battered buildings” but these can also provide traps as fighting ranges from the ground to the roof. This mid-sized map is “ideal for Team Slayer games and smaller, objective types.”
The only detail revealed about the third map so far is that “fans of smaller Slayer maps” should get excited. Check back here and on Bungie’s site for future updates on the final map.
Microsoft also detailed Halo 3’s continued success, revealing that over 7.3 million copies have been sold worldwide with 500 million hours of online game play logged and that the Heroic Map Pack has been downloaded by roughly 1 million gamers.
