Capcom set to Plunder XBLA, PSN

Plunder LogoCapcom has announced Plunder for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. Developed by Certain Affinity (of Halo series fame), Plunder is a real-time multiplayer strategy game that places players in command of a pirate ship, destroying enemies and capturing towns.

Pillaging fun

The game sees players teaming up with online players or pirate ships controlled by AI to raid villages, sink merchant ships, take over towns and steal gold. After plundering players will be able to upgrade and customize their ship, which will be needed before testing their skills against 25 challenges and 7 Pirate Alliances.

Up to four players can connect on a single console or up to eight players over Lan or internet. Players will also be able to try their hand at 25 multiplayer maps or create their own maps to share online.

Beyond the next-generation

Plunder is set to be released this summer. Although it has yet to be priced, Nique Fajors, Vice President of Marketing at Capcom Entertainment commented that it has “a planned price point that will be lower than most MMO’s monthly dues.”

Plunder was designed by Max Hoberman, President of Certain Affinity and former lead designer of Halo 2 and Halo 3. According to Hoberman, “Plunder goes beyond the next generation, from 3D to 6D, with cutting-edge hex-based environments that make traditional 3D games weak. If you only get to try one downloadable pirate Action / RTS this summer, check out Plunder.”
