Capcom has exceeded Microsoft’s 150MB Xbox Live Arcade game file size limit. Microsoft is allowing Capcom to do so to ensure “complete feature and graphical parity” between Bionic Commando Rearmed and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.
Capcom’s US blog confirmed that Microsoft was making a “very special exception” for Bionic Commando Rearmed and Super Turbo HDR.
According to the post by Capcom’s Chris Kramer, the producers and the public had voiced concerns that the XBLA versions of these two games “may not be as super-duper as the PS3 versions.” “Specifically, we had been concerned that the 1080p resolution art for SSFIIT HDR would not fit onto Xbox LIVE Arcade” and “that the 360 version of BCR might not have the same hi-res textures as the PS3.”
Packing an extra-huge amount of content
Capcom’s “solid relationship” with Microsoft as well as the large amount of content going into both games led to “Microsoft allow[ing] Capcom to work with a larger file size limit for both games.” The post continues “The larger limit is good for you, our happy-go-lucky gamer, as it allows us to pack an extra-huge amount of content into these games; just look at all the modes (co-op, Challenge Stages, not to mention a full game!) that are included in Bionic Commando Rearmed. The Xbox LIVE Arcade versions of both titles will have complete feature and graphical parity with the iterations that will be available on other platforms.”
Capcom also confirmed that Microsoft is content with its file size limit for XBLA titles so no policy change is on the cards. However, Microsoft will provide an exception on a case-by-case basis if a game warrants a file size exception.
Bionic Commando Rearmed is scheduled to be released on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network this May. Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix has not yet been dated but a beta form will soon be available.
