Nintendo of America has revealed its line-up for Quarter 1 of 2009. If you sift through the list of over 100 new games you will find Pokémon Platinum and Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon for the DS as well as the new Play Control! Pikmin and Mario Power Tennis for the Wii.
Pokémon Platinum is slated to be released across North America on the 22nd of March. The game features a new story, never-before-seen forms of Pokémon as well as a new world known as Distortion World. Pokémon Platinum also allows up to 20 players to interact with other Pokémon fans from around the world in new mini-games and activities in the new Wi-Fi Plaza. Also look out for new features in the Global Terminal such as posting battle videos in the Vs Recorder or put your skills to the test in the new Battle Frontier.
Other key titles include Personal Trainer: Math, which includes over 40 exercises to help players improve their math skills, and Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, a revamped version of the NES classic that features touch-screen controls. These DS titles are scheduled to arrive on shelves on the 12th of January and 16th of February 2009 respectively.
Wii gamers can look forward to two classic Nintendo GameCube games that have been enhanced for play using the Wii Remote: New Play Control! Mario Power Tennis and New Play Control! Pikmin both launch in March 2009. Use the Wii Remote as a cursor in New Play Control! Pikmin to select Pikmin or an entire army or throw Pikmin wherever the cursor is pointing. Step on to the court in New Play Control! Mario Tennis, complete with motion-controlled serves and swings that allow players to hit forehands, backhands and apply spin with the Wii Remote or attach the Nunchuk for precision shots.
There are also various third-party games worth keeping an eye on. Square Enix bring Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time to the Wii and DS in Spring while Sega’s Madworld arrives on the Wii in March. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars from Rockstar Games for the DS is scheduled to hit shelves in Winter.
“Our fans expect a diverse selection of entertainment options, and we’re eager to deliver exactly that,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “We’re building on the momentum of a strong holiday season by offering new and experienced players an even greater library of game titles in 2009.”
