Japanese Sales Data: Media Create software sales for 08/12 – 14/12

The Top 10 of the Japanese software chart was dominated by Nintendo this week, with four Wii games and six DS games making an appearance.

Taiko no Tatsujin Wii BoxartThe latest installment of the rhythm game series Taiko Drum Master topped the charts for the week ending the 14th of December. Namco Bandai’s Taiko no Tatsujin Wii debuted at number 1 with 105 900 copies.

Taiko no Tatsujin Wii ships with a special taiko or drum controller as well as a pair of plastic drumsticks. The drum peripheral plugs into the Wii Remote with players controlling the game from the drum. The game features a 70 song track list including J-Pop and various gaming theme tunes such as Mario and Soul Calibur.

Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii climbs one place to number 2 with 97 700 copies. The life simulation game’s life-to-date sales now stand at 587 000 copies since it was released across Japan in November this year.

Hoshi no Kirby: Ultra Super Deluxe moves up one place to third with 94 500 copies while Wagamama Fashion Girls Mode is up two places to number 4 with 63 100 copies. Both DS titles are published by Nintendo, bringing the total of Nintendo-published games in the Top 10 to six.

Konami’s Penguin no Mondai: Saikyou Penguin Densetsu!, a platformer for the DS (which translates to Legend of the strongest issues penguin penguins!), debuts at number 5 with 59 000 copies. Level 5’s Professor Layton and the Last Time Travel falls to number 6 with 57 600 copies after spending a few weeks at number 1. Its life-to-date sales fall just shy of half a million with 492 000 copies.

Pokémon Platinum remains in seventh with 57 500 copies while Rhythm Tengoku Gold climbs two places to number 8 with 45 200 copies. Wii Fit re-enters the Top 10 at number 9 with 43 000 copies, recording sales of 2.9 million since the game launched in Japan in December last year. Mario Kart Wii also re-enters the Top 10, selling 34 300 copies at number 10 and boasting life-to-date sales of 1.9 million.

Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World for the PS2 falls ten places to number 12 while Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 for the PS3 drops six spots to number 11. 428: Fuusa Sareta Shibuya de plummets to number 26 from its debut at number 8 last week while Fallout 3 for the Xbox 360 drops out of the Top 30 completely after entering the chart at number 9 last week.
