The Top 5 of the Japanese software chart are all new releases this week, with a mix of games for four different platforms. Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii debuts at the top of the chart with 305 000 copies.
If the popularity of its predecessor is anything to go by, the latest installment of Nintendo’s life simulation game will maintain a regular appearance in the chart for some time to come. Despite being released in Japan in November 2005, Animal Crossing: Wild World for the NDS retains a spot in the Top 30 at number 29.
It’s nice to see the sales numbers of the Top 5 up from last week. Chrono Trigger DS from Square Enix is new at number 2 with 271 000 copies while Namco Bandai’s Gundam vs Gundam for the PSP debuts at number 3 with 267 000 copies.
The Last Remnant, also from Square Enix, secures the Xbox 360 a rare appearance in the Top 10, selling 101 000 copies at number 4. Sega’s Saka DS: Touch and Go for the DS enters the charts at number 5 with 72 000 copies.
Positions 5 through 9 are ruled by DS titles. First up is Nintendo’s Hoshi no Kirby: Ultra Super Deluxe, falling to number 6 after two weeks in the number 1 spot, with 55 000 copies. Wagamama Fashion Girls Mode and Rhythm Tengoku Gold, both from Nintendo, switch places this week and settle into seventh and eighth with 25 000 copies each. Pokémon Platinum moves up one place to number 9 with 24 000 copies and Spike’s Way of the Samurai 3 for the PS3 drops to number 10 with 20 000 copies after debuting at number 2 last week.
Sony’s Resistance 2 for the PS3 drops to number 26 after debuting at number 5 last week. Gran Turismo Prologue Spec III sticks it out at number 14 while Grand Theft Auto IV continues a downward spiral, dropping from number 11 to number 24 this week. Nintendo’s Wii Music struggles to keep up the pace at number 22 while last week’s number 23 LittleBigPlanet drops out of the Top 30 completely in its fourth week of release.
Don’t forget to tune in for the hardware figures tomorrow!
