Banjo Kazooie text readability fix coming

Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts BoxshotOn the release of the Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts demo last week, there was a tiny furore over the fact that text readability on Standard Definition (SD) televisions was difficult at best. What was worse was the apparently official statement from Rare regarding the issue of text readability:

“Unfortunately, this is an issue that doesn’t look like it will get changed. I don’t want to bore you with the technical side of things (I really don’t understand it all myself), but the long and the short of it is that the text you see in the demo will be the same as that which you find in the retail version of the game.”

A bit of a disappointment. This week, however, Rare have changed their tune and are now working on a fix which will become available soon:

“Banjo team are now working on a fix to resolve the related issues and MGS PR has kindly prepared a statement to give you the full lowdown, so I’ll defer to their expertly chosen words:

’It has come to our attention that people are experiencing subtitle readability issues with Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts on Standard Definition TVs. We would like to assure you that contrary to earlier reports, we are aware of the issue and currently working on a title update to be released within the next 30 days that will fix it for those with Standard Definition TVs. We’re committed to ensuring all fans of the franchise are able to have the best experience possible with Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.’

Just to head off any confusion, you can take subtitles to mean the dialogue text. So now you’ll all be able to have a good old chuckle at the text our elusive Editor (he of Rare Scribes) has carefuly crafted for you.”

Thank-goodness for that, then. Banjo and Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts is out in the US tomorrow (November 11th) and releases in the UK and Europe this Friday (November 14th).
