With the Tokyo Game Show currently underway, there have been a host of new announcements from the show floor, not least of which is Microsoft’s revealed line-up of games for the Xbox 360 as well as the date you can expect the New Xbox Experience to arrive.
That second question could be answered with a simple date: November 19th across 26 countries. “On that day” reads the press release, “millions of Xbox 360 owners worldwide will experience a completely new Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system from Microsoft that is fun, social and simple to use – and puts more entertainment at their fingertips than any other device connected to the TV.”
What can you expect on the New Xbox Experience?
The New Xbox Experience brings with it a bunch of new features, including Xbox LIVE Party (connecting to seven of your friends while you play games with voice-chat and media sharing abilities), Personality plus (create a customisable avatar to represent yourself in Xbox LIVE), on-demand entertainment (download movies and music) as well as the much touted Community Games Channel (games made by non-professional developers can be played and rated by the community).
The games line-up, on the other hand, has a few additions over the usual Gears of War 2 and Fable II - try Tekken 6, previously thought to be PS3-exclusive, as well as Ninety-Nine Nights II, Star Ocean: The Last Hope and the just-announced Halo 3: Recon, as well as the expected The Last Remnant, Resident Evil 5.
Future Xbox LIVE Arcade titles will include, ARKANOIDTM Live! (seems to be a slightly updated version), The King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match, Metal Slug 7, Meteos Wars, R-Type Dimensions, SPACE INVADERS EXTREME and Tenchu: Shadow Assault.
For more information on the New Xbox Experience, Gamasutra has a great interview with Rob Gruhl, Microsoft senior platform strategist, and Albert Penello, global platform marketing manager, speaking about the update.
