The PSP continues its newfound dominance in the Japanese Hardware Charts this week, as it sells through 60 467 units, although that figure is less than half of what it sold last week (159 816).
Despite this, the next set of console sales down, the Wii, manages to sell only half of the PSP’s number, with 24 292 new Wii consoles now sitting in Japanese homes. This is only slightly down from last week’s performance of 26 024 units. The DS, which has been on the slides ever since the DSi announcement, is able to sell 22 965 units for the week - down almost 7 000 units from last week.
As a result of these figures, the Year-to-Date sales of the PSP are under no threat of being overtaken, pulling even further ahead of both the Wii and the DS at 3 053 429 units sold in the last year, while the DS sits at 2 491 509 units and the Wii at 2 288 681.
Are people simply waiting for the DSi? The Xbox 360 once again trumps the PS2 and PS3 sales figures by squeezing 7 844 units out into consumers’ hands. The PS2, for this late in the game, is still looking healthy with 6 962 units for the week, while the PS3 is looking in ill health, with a paltry 3 931 units sold this week in Japan.
