We’re at the sixth Gears of War 2 video documentary (ViDoc) this week, to get everybody primed and ready for its release on November 7th. This time around, the Gears of War 2 team “talks art - what it takes to make it and what it takes to blow it up.” The team further asks:
“Can a game be considered art? This contentious question is tackled by the Gears 2 team in “A Pixel is Worth 1,000 Words,” the latest instalment in our behind-the-scenes video documentary series. Take a look to learn about the unexpected influences that helped shape the world of Gears - like a trip to London and the Requiem for a Dream soundtrack, among others - and how the crew at Epic feels about watching players blow up their art (hint: They planned on it).”

Comments:
Definitely - Gears is pure art. Just look at how much love and passion Cliff and Rod and the boys put into their creations, both at the technical level and how it is all rendered.
I visited Epic in Feb this year and spent a day playing the new multiplayer modes - DEADLY... Can't wait for November. I reckon Gears 2 will once again push the boundaries of what we have come to expect.
This game is going to be amazing, but I think everyone kind of had that feeling after the first one. In fact they could have just added some new maps, a few new weapons and vehicles re-boxed the old game and it would have sold.
It's the fact that these guys are so dedicated to the game that they decided to take it as far as they could. EA Sports could learn a few lessons here.
