While the Nintendo DS may be continuing along its unstoppable path of Chart Dominance, sales did drop off a bit, to the tune of around 16 000 units, managing to move 42 385 units this week. A result of the DSi announcement? In the No. 2 hardware spot, the PSP, with 26 045 units sold, just beats out the Wii with 25 330 units, helping it reach the No. 3 position.
The struggle for the now-coveted No. 4 spot rages on, and it’s the old kid on the block, the PS2, that squeezes past the competition with 8 618 units. The Xbox 360 once again outdoes the PlayStation 3 to hit the No. 5 spot. Number of new Japanese Xbox 360 owners - 8 271. Number of new Japanese PS3 owners - 7 232.
While the Xbox 360’s relative success in Japan continues, the gap between it and the PS3 has grown very small. Is this the last time Microsoft surpasses Sony in Japan? At least for a little while?
Here are the standings:
- NDS - 42,385
- PSP - 26,045
- Wii - 25,330
- PS2 - 8,618
- 360 - 8,271
- PS3 - 7,232
