Nintendo has confirmed that more than 6 million Wiis have been sold in Europe since it was launched in December 2006. In addition four first party Wii titles (Wii Play, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Party 8 and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess) have each sold over one million copies across Europe.
Wii Play was a firm favourite with 2.3 million copies shifted while The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess sold 1.3 million copies, Mario Party 8 one million copies and Super Mario Galaxy 1.3 million copies.
No stranger to the spotlight, the Nintendo DS has now sold over 20 million units in Europe, thanks in part to popular titles including Brain Training and Nintendogs. Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? has sold 5 million copies while More Brain Training From Dr Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain? has sold 2.8 million copies and Nintendogs 8 million copies.
Nintendo’s beloved plumber continues to be a firm favourite, with Mario Kart DS boasting 2 million copies now sold across Europe, New Super Mario Bros over 3 million copies to date and Super Mario Galaxy exceeding the 1 million copies mark just a few months after launching.
Below is a list of the European sales figures as at the beginning of January 2008. Please note that these sell-through figures are provided by independent research companies and are based upon retail sales in each European country.
2008 is sure to be another cracking year for Nintendo with Wii Fit, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii (bundled with Wii Wheel) heading to the Wii while Nintendo DS fans can look forward to Touch! Generations titles including Professor Kageyama’s Maths Training: The Hundred Cell Calculation Method.
