The gaming world is going to be rocked by this week’s Japanese hardware sales which see the PSP rocketing to the best selling hardware in Japan for the week ending the 16th of September. According to Media Create the PSP sold an astounding 95 487 units this week, almost 80 000 units more than last week’s sales of 15 564.
This jump was no doubt fueled by Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII debuting at the top of the software charts this week with 487 000 units. However, it is interesting to note that although two Nintendo DS titles occupied the second and third spot, this seemed to do little for the momentum of the Nintendo DS. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2: Time Exploration Team sold 300 000 units while Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2: Darkness Exploration Team lingered just behind with 269 000 units.
The Nintendo DS took second place on the hardware charts with 79 974 units, selling marginally more than last week’s 77 488. The Nintendo Wii continues its plummet downwards, dropping from the previous two week’s 39 371 and 29 088 respectively to 26 181 units.
In fourth place was the PS2 which is still holding strong at 13 128 units (last week it sold 13 360 units) while the PS3 is also pretty steady in fifth place with 13 101 units sold in comparison to last week’s 13 248. The Xbox 360 sold 1 243 units in sixth spot while the GBA and Nintendo GameCube sold 836 and 97 respectively.
