Sony has shaken the console war up a bit with the PS3 outselling the Nintendo Wii in Japan for the week ending the 11th of November. The PS3 experienced a sales leap from 17 434 units last week to 55 924 units this week largely due to a new white model being released and a price cut in the land of the rising sun. The PS3 version of Koei’s Shin Sangoku Musou 5 (aka Dynasty Warriors 6) debuting in second place on the software charts with a whopping 188 000 copies sold also helped sales along nicely no doubt.

The Nintendo DS topped the hardware chart again with 78 884 units, slightly up from last week’s 78 597, while Sony’s PSP sold slightly less than last week’s 59 714 units but still remains strong with 58 964 units sold. It is interesting to note that Mario Party DS debuting at the top of the software chart with 235 000 copies does not seem to have affected the Nintendo DS hardware sales.

The Nintendo Wii slides backwards from last week’s 37 617 units to 34 546 units, experiencing slower sales with Super Mario Galaxy selling just 74 000 copies in its second week after its launch week total of 251 000 copies. The PS2 sold 9 043 units, roughly the same as last week’s 10 209 units. The Xbox 360 takes a plunge after outselling the PS3 last week with 5 817 units, down from last week’s total of 17 673. The GBA sold 923 units and the Nintendo GameCube 69, in comparison to last week’s 319 and 155 respectively.
