FlatOut 2 has sold more than 500 000 copies worldwide. The sequel to the acclaimed FlatOut reached this sales mark just three months after its 2006 release. FlatOut 2 was also awarded the ‘Best PS2 Racing Game of 2006’ at the IGN.com awards as well as the ‘Best Racing Game of 2006’ by G4 TV channel’s X-Play.
The FlatOut series was developed by BugBear Entertainment and published by Empire Interactive to be the most action-packed destruction racing experience on the PS2, Xbox and PC. The series has proved very successful, with sales now well over 1.5 million units.
Jussi Laakkonen, business development director at BugBear Entertainment said, “Being chosen as the best racing game of 2006 by two of the most popular game medias was a truly outstanding moment for everybody at BugBear. We didn’t expect the accolades as we were going against a number of really great driving games. When the results were published, it felt exceptional. It felt like a real victory.”
FlatOut 2 was made possible by BugBear’s proprietary physics engine which is capable of delivering more than 5000 destructible objects on every track as well as 40 deformable parts on each of the eight vehicles running and crashing side by side. The game also features destruction derbies and Ragdoll punishing party games, which have both proved to be very popular.
BugBear Entertainment is currently developing FlatOut Ultimate Carnage for the Xbox 360, which is expected to be released later this year.
