Sony America announced the release of a limited edition silver PlayStation 2 just in time for Christmas this year. The silver console is retailing in stores for $129 and is available strictly while stocks last. The system features the same design and function as its black counterpart but comes packaged with a limited edition silver controller.
The PlayStation 2 remains the most popular gaming platform in North America, Europe/PAL territories and Japan/Asia. Sony expects the release of the silver edition to further fuel the demand for the successful PS2. According to Sony America, more than 111 million PS2’s and 1.12 billion pieces of PlayStation 2 software have shipped worldwide, securing it the title of the fastest selling gaming platform on the market.
Jack Tretton, Executive Vice President Sony Computer Entertainment America, says “six years after its initial launch, the PlayStation 2 continues to enjoy non-stop success, outselling all other consoles. The introduction of this limited edition model is sure to be a hit this holiday season with die-hard PlayStation fans and new gamers alike.”
