Brotherly Betrayal makes Devils Cry

In the beginning there was nothing, no light, no dark, no space between and no space apart. Everything was nothing, an endless void filled with nothing but hope. Yes hope, it seemed, was the foremost bedrock onto which not only a new world would be conceived, but everything in the universe. All the life forms and all the inanimate objects would learn to live with and off each other, creating a life for themselves. They would come to create tales of monstrous lizards, fire-breathing dragons, Loch Ness monsters and extraterrestrial beings, thus forging legends and folk tales, as well as religions and cults. Yes, it seemed that the stories that would come from the earth’s people would soon become the force that governed the people. There would be forces of good along with forces of evil, forces of love set against forces of hate. Gods would be born, as would devils.

Although nowhere in the game Devil May Cry is the above mentioned at all, it does give an accurate impression as to how epic or important the story that the game depicts is. In only a way that Capcom could portray, the fate of the world is in your hands (again), whether that fate is good or evil is up to you to decide.

A Devil Slayers Biography

The events that occur in this episode precede those that take place in the original game and its hugely successful sequel. This is Dante’s experiences before opening Devil May Cry (a demon extermination service that sits somewhere between the lines of Ghostbusters and Poltergeist), and tells the story of his fathers death, his brothers betrayal, and how it came to be that hundreds and thousands of demons were called forth from the underworld to infect the earth. So as not to spoil the storyline, I’ll end this section by proclaiming this. This game has one of the most enticing, entangling and invigorating storylines that I have ever come across in a game of this nature (I’m not comparing this to the greats such as 70+ hour Final Fantasy or even the Legend of Zelda). It compels the player to play on and on, giving little treats along the way which make you sit back on your hindquarters and beg for more. It’s great news to know though that Capcom are the type to have plenty of treats in their pockets, and they love to spoil their pets. What can I say? A game that holds my attention long enough to make me finish it in one sitting, and once done wanting to start over again, is a sure winner in my books.

How an Action Game Should Play

The perfect balance between God of War and Resident Evil 4 is what makes this game even more spectacular. Although God of War had a pretty good storyline, it was nothing compared to that of the summer sellout Capcom horror adventure Resident Evil 4. One thing that God of War did do perfectly was the fighting system. The combos were easy to learn and execute, and the action never seemed to stop. Now combine that fighting with the depth and puzzle solving of RE4 and you create a game that will change most people’s lives after playing it. It’s hard to put a finger on it. It seems this powerful combination of game play and story telling is what makes DMC3 a classic.

A Blood Bath or Deserved Justice

As any “Oprah” journalist would tell you, “Games like these make our children into violent monsters that want to go out into the real world and attack people.” Lady I have one thing to tell you…it’s not the games that are making your children into horrible little citizens, it’s the lack of love and attention from their parents, and all they need is a hug you know. That aside, I think it is worth a mention that albeit there is a heck of a lot of fighting in this game (and a respectful amount of bloodshed I might add) you can’t help but feel you are killing, I mean playing, for a cause. A just cause, which if anything is encouraging patriotism and good morals in our children, as well as delivering an exciting and entertaining experience for the whole family.

A Chapter of Your Life

From the opening scene to the final credits you will be in awe. In fact I found myself still sitting on the sofa long after the game had gone back to the menu screen. Just sitting there, dumbstruck, with the controller still in my shaking sweaty hands. Just sitting there, thinking of what I had just experienced, thinking of the story and how it had concluded, thinking about all the things that had transpired between the characters and thinking of all the monsters I had slain. Looking back on it now, the game made me feel proud, not only proud to be an exceptional warrior, but proud that I had done my world a great good. Play it once, it is good, play it twice, it will be better.

Good: Mix God of War and Resident Evil 4…what more can I say.
Bad: A bit too short.
