Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

Tuesday 05 Aug 2008

Another Guitar Hero? So soon? It’s only one band? Okayyyy…So, what’s new? It’s Aerosmith! Now this is where you decide if you’re super excited, or not.

Setting a whole game around one band can be very risky after producing the three best rhythm games in ages. Not only is it a matter of hearing the same sound over and over again but you also stand the chance of losing hardcore followers who reckon that they’ve (Neversoft) lost the plot and are now just doing Guitar Hero sequels of bands.

Let me be honest – I’m not an Aerosmith fan but I am a complete Guitar Hero nut. I might not be as good as some other player out there on YouTube but I can proudly say that I play on Expert…well, some songs. Nothing has changed in the concept side of things for this game with the “orange” fret button still being the booger in your eye when you least expect it.

Thankfully (in my case) there are some other bands that feature in the game as an apparent opening show for the main show – that being Aerosmith, which breaks the ice a bit. It goes like this: You follow a documentary-like story of the opening Aerosmith act (with movie footage of interviews with the bands all in tact) which date back to 1964. You work your way through their luxurious life and end up playing their new songs. Thus emulating their experiences…seeing that an orange can fit whole into your mouth. (Didn’t get that? Go here)

There you have it. If you have been an Aerosmith fan then you are in for a massive treat. However, if you are not much of a fan this will not really convert you to buy Aerosmith CD’s. It will, however, encourage you to play some more Guitar Hero, seeing that you are bored of all the awesome content available for download for Guitar Hero 3. Co-op is also available to extend the length of this game, but I fear if you’re not a fan it won’t sit in your tray for too long. Bring on Guitar Hero: Metallica! We’ve heard the rumours…

Pros: Aerosmith fans dreams come true; same structure as Guitar Hero 3 which works really well.

Cons: If you’re not a fan of Aerosmith you are gonna be a bit bored; more bands would have been great and the song list is too small.
