Halo: Recut competition launches for Europe and SA

Tuesday 04 Mar 2008

Microsoft and Bungie Studios have teamed up to launch the Halo: Recut competition across Europe and South Africa. The competition is “looking for fans to help create and show the unseen adventures of Master Chief.” The winner will walk away with a trip to Los Angeles to study at the New York Film Academy for one month.

The unseen adventures of Master Chief

The competition is looking for Halo fans to make an original video of Master Chief out of the Halo universe but “remixed into different scenarios.” You can do this by using a traditional video camera, gaming footage, old school animation or video editing software, as long as you push your creativity to the max. Microsoft’s suggestions include a Master Chief’s ‘Meet the Parents’ or break dancing to MC Hammer.

To enter the competition, head over to http://www.xbox.com/en-ZA/halorecut and upload your video by the 21st of March. A panel of experts from the gaming industry will sift out the most creative concepts and one winner from each country will win an Xbox 360 and a copy of Halo 3.

You can read the T & C’s on the site, but here is a rundown of a few important details. You must be 18 years or older to enter, your video cannot be bigger than 10MB and must be sent as a .wmv, .mpeg or .avi and must not be longer than 3 minutes.

A new take on the Halo phenomenon

The winning video from each country will head to a grand final which will be judged by Bungie Studios. The overall winner will walk away with a trip to Los Angeles to study at the New York Film Academy for one month, including return transatlantic flights, accommodation, car rental and $2 000 spending money.

Head over to the official competition website for a few hilarious videos of Master Chief, including Scatman MasterChief and Halo3: Kids Master Chief Spartan Amour as well as Life-size Halo 3 Painting. These should help to get the creative juices flowing!

Brian Jarrard of Bungie Studios commented “This competition is a great way to showcase the creativity and passion that drives the Halo fan community. We can’t wait to see how people infuse their own style and personality into Master Chief and deliver a whole new take on the Halo phenomenon. May the best Spartan win!”
