Mario Kart Wii racing across Europe 11 April
Wednesday 20 Feb 2008
Nintendo UK has just announced that Mario Kart Wii will be racing onto European shelves on the 11th of April. The game will retail at £39.99.
The next installment in the popular Mario Kart series, Mario Kart Wii will come bundled with the new Wii Wheel. This latest accessory will make the game accessible so new Mario Karters and veteran racers can compete against each other. However, the game supports five different control options so you can play using the Wii Wheel, Wii Remote turned on its side, Wii Remote and Nunchuk combination, Classic Controller and Nintendo GameCube controller.
New tracks, new power-ups
The game combines the features of the series but gamers will be delighted to know that they can look forward to 16 new tracks (as well as 16 classic tracks from previous Mario Kart games), characters, weapons and vehicles. Even better news is that gamers can play against up to 11 players simultaneously worldwide using Nintendo Wi-Fi. Up to four people can challenge each other in multiplayer mode.

“Mario Kart Wii is an eagerly anticipated launch for Europe and we are confident that all those who have enjoyed playing previous Mario Kart games, in particular the Nintendo DS version will be pleased and looking forward to its arrival. Mario Kart Wii encompasses the core spirit of Mario Kart: an incredibly rich and deep game play experience that provides never ending fun,” commented Laurent Fischer, Managing Director of Marketing & PR of Nintendo of Europe.
“And with the Wii Wheel, every member of the whole family will feel comfortable to join in and experience kart racing regardless of whether they are a karting champion or a complete new beginner. With the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service also allowing friends and family to compete around the globe, we are confident that Mario Kart fans won’t be left disappointed with this installment exclusively on Wii.”

Bikes and Miis
Get ready to race in a new mode of transport, bikes! This will be the first time the series offers players the choice to race with karts or bikes. Choosing bikes will open up new game play possibilities such as performing ‘wheelies’ to give you that much needed boost to win the race. And if you thought this game could not get any more exciting, you were wrong because players will be able to choose their own Miis to race with! Also keep an eye out for those never-before-seen characters!
Mario Kart Wii will stay true to the series in offering adrenaline pumping racing action, various power-ups as well as objects to throw your opponent’s way to slow them down. The game also features 10 battle arenas.

Introducing the Mario Kart Channel
A new Wii Channel called the Mario Kart Channel will also be launched with Mario Kart Wii. The Channel will use data from racers completed online to keep track of players’ rankings. This means you can check your ranking against other racers rankings as well as access and share Ghost Data to download.
Mario Kart Channel will enable players to check if their friends are online or set up a room to chat in before racing. Players will also be able to join in on friends races in progress as a spectator and join the next race with them. The channel will feature new online features and will detail special worldwide events arranged by Nintendo.
