Japanese Sales Data: Super Smash Bros. Brawl crosses the 1 million markThursday 14 Feb 2008 Media Create figures for the week ending the 10th of February show that Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl has crossed the one million sales mark in Japan. The popular Wii title sold 252 000 copies this week bringing the total sales to 1.071 million since its launch in Japan on the 31st of January. You will remember of course that the game debuted on the software chart last week with a record 820 000 copies. If we break this down even further it means that Super Smash Bros. Brawl has sold over one million copies in just eleven days, making it the fastest selling Wii game in Japan. This is an impressive feat, especially if we take into account that Wii Fit took seven weeks to reach one million sales in Japan and Wii Play (not bundled with the Wii hardware in Japan) eleven weeks. Looking ahead to hardware figuresIt is interesting to note that Nintendo’s Wii Fit and Wii Sports have both moved up the software chart, perhaps due to renewed interest in the Wii as a result of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Even Wii Play jumped up from number 21 to number 12 this week. The hardware figures will be affected by this movement no doubt, so expect another high selling week for the Wii. The Nintendo DS secured three top ten positions this week in comparison to the PSP’s one (albeit it a number two place) so it will be interesting to see whether the PSP will beat the DS for a second week or if the DS will emerge on top this week.
The movers and the shakersNintendo’s Wii Sports moves up from last week’s number 11 to number 6 with 21 000 copies while Konami’s L, the Prologue to Death Note: Rasen’s Trap for the Nintendo DS debuts at number 7 with 20 000 copies. Namco Bandai’s Family Ski for the Wii moves up from last week’s number 12 to number 8 with 18 000 copies and another Namco Bandai title, Takes of Destiny: Director’s Cut for the PSP, drops six places to number 9 with 17 000 copies. Nintendo’s Mario Party DS moves up three places to number 10 with 16 000 copies. Last week’s top ten titles which didn’t make the grade this week include Konami’s World Soccer Winning Eleven: Ubiquitous Evolution 2008 for the PSP (drops three places to number 13), Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed for the PS3 (drops seven places to number 16), Banpresto’s Haruhi Suzumiya’s Wonderment for the PS2 (drops 13 places to number 17) and Nippon Ichi Software’s Disgaea 3 for the PS3 (drops 8 places to number 14). The Xbox 360 version of Capcom’s Devil May Cry 4 drops completely out of the top thirty this week following its debut at number 7 last week. Source: Media Create
