Japanese Sales Data: Wii at 5 million mark, hardware sales continue to dropFriday 25 Jan 2008 The latest figures from Media Create show that hardware sales in Japan have continued their downward trend for the week ending the 20th of January. The Nintendo DS sold 88 575 units to claim first place on the hardware chart, down from last week’s 97 369 units. The Wii overtook the PSP in terms of sales, moving up one place on the charts to claim second place with 81 638 units, slightly down from last week’s 84 530 units. It may also be of interest to you to note that the Wii is just shy of the 5 million sales mark in Japan, boasting 4.99 million life-to-date sales. Nintendo’s console is also being lapped up in Europe with recent figures showing that over 6 million Wiis have been sold in Europe since its launch in December 2006. Sony’s PSP has to be content with third place this week, taking quite a drop from last week’s 96 159 units to just 79 923 units this week. The PS3 holds steady with 38 117 units (38 907 units last week) while its predecessor sold 13 539 units, slightly down from the previous week’s 14 499. Meanwhile the Xbox 360 crosses the finishing line last with 4 552 units, marginally short of last week’s 4 690 target.
