Japanese Sales Data: Wii Fit keeps the pace, hardware figures plummetFriday 18 Jan 2008 The latest figures from Media Create show that all the hardware systems experienced a radical post festive season drop in sales. The Nintendo DS is still the leader of the pack, selling 97 369 units for the week ending the 13th of January. Although this was a decent tally for one week’s sales, the sales for Nintendo’s popular handheld plummeted from last week’s 266 568 units. With the excitement of the holiday period now almost behind us we can expect figures in this region to become the norm again. Sony’s PSP was only just behind the Nintendo DS with 96 159 units, also down drastically from last week’s 218 234 units, and proving that it can still hold its own. The Wii is still the leader of the next-gen console race, selling 84 530 units after last week’s impressive figure of 207 797 units. The PS3 is hanging on tight to second place with 38 907 units (down from 64 183) while the Xbox 360 comes in last with just 4 690 units (down from 9 763). The PS2 is still holding steady with 14 499 units, down from 32 010 last week. Nintendo still dominating software salesThe software figures for the same period are similar to last week’s in that the Nintendo DS and Wii have once again dominated the top ten, however, this week the Sony PSP manages to secure a place with Nintendo taking the remaining nine spots. Nintendo again lays claim to the top three places on the software chart. Wii Fit shimmies up one place to reclaim the number 1 spot with 89 584 copies while last week’s winner Mario Party DS slides into second place with 43 082 copies. Wii Sports finishes in third again with 33 267 copies while Square-Enix’s Final Fantasy IV for the Nintendo DS sticks in fourth with 32 427 copies. Capcom’s Monster Hunter Portable 2nd for the PSP moves up from last week’s number 14 to claim fifth place with 25 927 copies and Level 5’s Prof. Layton and Pandora’s Box settles in sixth with 25 303 copies, up from number 8 last week. Square-Enix’s Dragon Quest IV for the Nintendo DS stays at number 7 with 24 992 copies while Wii Play drops two places to number 8 with 24 820 copies. Nintendo’s Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games sells 21 661 copies to hang on to ninth place while the ever-popular Mario Kart DS sells 17 433 copies to move up one place and re-enter the top ten at number 10. Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii drops from last week’s number 5 to number 11 and Mario Party 8 falls to number 12 from last week’s number 10.
