Japanese Sales Data: Mario Party DS still topsThursday 22 Nov 2007 Nintendo’s Mario Party DS has topped the Japanese Software Charts for a second week in a row. Mario and friend’s latest escapade sold 116 000 copies for the week ending the 18th of November. The game debuted last week with 235 000 copies, bringing the total sales to 351 000 to date. The latest installment in Capcom’s popular Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii, debuted at number 2 with 83 000 copies. The PS3 version of Koei’s Shin Sangoku Musou 5 (aka Dynasty Warriors 6) drops one place to number 3, selling 76 000 copies in its second week on the charts. Namco Bandai’s Pro Baseball Family Stadium DS enters the charts in fourth place with 49 000 copies while the Nintendo DS game Game Center CX: Arino’s Challenge, also from Namco Bandai, debuts at number 5 with 46 000 copies. Nintendo’s Super Mario Galaxy remains in the top ten but drops three places to number 6, selling 40 000 copies in its third week of release. Sony’s PS3 exclusive Heavenly Sword enters the fray at number 7, selling just 15 000 copies in its opening week while Final Fantasy Tactics A2 from Square Enix for the Nintendo DS drops from last week’s number 4 to number 8 with 14 000 copies. Nintendo’s Wii Sports moves down two places to number 9 with 13 000 copies and Namco Bandai’s Armored Soldiers: Votoms for the PS2 debuts in tenth place with 12 000 copies. Nintendo’s Wii Play is still lurking in eleventh place. However, two Nintendo DS titles drop out of the top ten, Nintendo’ Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes a Day drops three places to number 12 and Tecmo’s DS Nishimura Kyotarou Suspense Detective Series: Deadly Intent moves down five places to number 13. Last week’s number 10, Sony’s Ratchet & Clank Future for the PS3, drops to number 15 while the Xbox 360 version of Koei’s Shin Sangoku Musou 5 falls to number 19 from fifth place last week. The hardware sales figures for Japan will be released tomorrow. With Mario Party DS still topping the charts and three other DS titles also in the top ten, the Nintendo DS is bound to continue its upward sales trend. Last week saw Sony’s PS3 outselling the Wii thanks to a new model being released and a price cut as well as high sales of Koei’s Shin Sangoku Musou 5 for that week. This week with three Wii top ten titles against two PS3, things are going to be interesting, however, the PS3 is bound to experience quite a drastic drop in units and I predict the Wii will once again take first place in the next-gen race.
