Japanese software sales - Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII tops

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for the PSP has topped the software charts in Japan for the week ending the 16th of September. According to Media Create this popular title debuted with an impressive 487 000 units sold.

Newcomers top the charts

The top four spots in the software charts were all occupied by newcomers. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2: Time Exploration Team for the Nintendo DS was in number 2 with 300 000 units sold while Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2: Darkness Exploration Team (also for the Nintendo DS) lingered just behind with 269 000 units. The PSP’s Fate/Tiger Colosseum scored fourth place selling 55 000 units while Banpresto’s Another Century’s Episode 3: The Final for the PS2 dropped from last week’s number 1 (186 422 sales) to this week’s number 5 with 31 000 sales.

Taiko Drum Master DS sold 24 000 units earning it the sixth spot while Nintendo’s Mario Party 8 for the Wii slid down from last week’s number 3 with 28 237 sales into number 7 this week with sales of 24 000. Square Enix’s Final Fantasy: Chrystal Chronicles – Ring of Fates for the Nintendo DS sold 24 000 securing it number 8, down from last week’s number 2 with 35 696 sales. Last week’s number 4 with 25 250 sales, Koei’s Samurai Warriors 2 Xtreme Legends for the PS2 sold just 14 000 to take the ninth spot. My Housekeeping Diary for the Nintendo DS rounded off the top ten with 13 000 sales, moving down from last week’s number 8 with 14 993 sales.

Nintendo leads the pack

Nintendo DS titles dominated the week with no less than eighteen titles in the top thirty, followed by the PS2 with four, the Wii with three, PSP with three and PS3 with just two. Positions eleven to sixteen were occupied with Nintendo DS and Wii titles including Brain Age 2, Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes a Day, Mario Kart DS, Wii Sports, Wii Play and New Super Mario Bros. Nintendo’s Wii Play and Wii Sports slipped from last week’s ninth and tenth spot respectively, with sales of 13 995 and 13 225, with Wii Sports taking the 14th spot and Wii Play the 15th.

Koei’s Bladestorm slipped out of the top ten from last week’s number 5 to this week’s number 17. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories from Capcom for the PS2 also drops since its debut at number 7 last week with 15 674 sales to number 19 this week.
