Manhunt 2 receives M rating, approved for sale in USMonday 27 Aug 2007 Rockstar Games’ controversial Manhunt 2 has received a Mature rating (suitable for consumers aged 17 and older) by the ESRB after the game was modified. The game is scheduled to be released in the US on the Wii, PS2 and PSP on the 31st of October. Halloween, how fitting for a gruesome horror game. Gamers will have to wait until then to see how the game has been modified. Sam Houser, founder and executive producer of Rockstar Games commented, “Manhunt 2 is important to us, and we’re glad it can finally be appreciated as a gaming experience. We love the horror genre. Manhunt 2 is a powerful piece of interactive story telling that is a unique video game experience. We think horror fans will love it.” For those out of the loop, Manhunt 2 was originally granted an Adults Only rating by the ESRB. This rating effectively doomed the game because most major retailers in the US do not stock AO-rated games and Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo refuse to permit AO-rated games on their consoles Manhunt 2 was denied a rating in the UK by the BBFC, effectively banning the game from sale in the country. Rockstar Games is currently appealing the BBFC’s decision but it is unclear whether they have resubmitted a revised Manhunt 2 in the hope that the ban will be lifted.
