Metal Gear Online confirmed

Wednesday 25 Jul 2007

Konami’s Metal Gear 20th Anniversary event in Japan last night saw the first details as well as game play footage emerging for Metal Gear Online for the PS3.

A select team of 3 000 Japanese beta testers will soon begin a closed beta for the online title. The open beta will run from the 7th of August until the 3rd of September, with recruitment being done between the 24th of July and 6th of August. Despite Kojima Productions assistant producer, Ryan Payton, wanting the beta to be international, so far the open beta will also be Japanese only.

Dubbed a strategic multiplayer experience, Metal Gear Online will support up to 16 players at one time. Featuring a new SOP system, the game will allow players to keep tabs on teammates through the use of nanomachines which are injected into their bloodstream. Nanomachines enable players to see the team’s whereabouts, battle condition and location of nearest enemy. In addition, nanomachines can be injected into enemies so that players can also keep a look out for enemy movements.

Metal Gear Online will feature characters, stages and the same control scheme in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It will also feature additional environments, game modes and team-based multiplayer madness. Metal Gear online is slated to be coming exclusively to the PS3.
