E3: SCEA packs a punch as it showcases new content for over 30 first party software titlesThursday 12 Jul 2007 SCEA held nothing back at their E3 press conference yesterday when they showcased an impressive line-up of software for the PS3, PSP, PS2 and PlayStation Network. Unveiling new content for over 30 first party software titles which were previously announced this year, SCEA also allowed lucky attendees to glimpse three highly anticipated games: Killzone 2, the next installment in the Gran Turismo series and the new franchise Infamous. “We know implicitly that what is most on the minds of gamers right now, as we head into the important holiday season, are the games themselves,” said Jack Tretton, president and chief executive officer of SCEA. “Today, we more than delivered what those consumers have been looking for. During just our press conference today, we showed 50 first- and third-party games for all our platforms, including incredibly high profile games like God of War: Chains of Olympus, Killzone 2 and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Add to that new franchises like Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Heavenly Sword, and Infamous and you can see why we are very well positioned to maintain our role as a leader in this industry.” Infamous, a new franchisePhil Harrison, president of SCE WorldWide Studios, officially unveiled a new franchise for the PS3 during the E3 press conference. Developed by Sucker Punch Productions, Infamous will see players discovering super powers. Player’s powers will grow and it is up to them to become a Super Hero or wreak havoc in a city. The choices players make will impact on how the city’s population evolves and reacts. Titles showcased for PS3SCEA also showcased more than 40 first and third party games after the press conference. An invitation only arcade showcased titles for all PlayStation systems and reinforced SCEA’s commitment to the PS2 with the Buzz! and SingStar franchises as well as Hot Shots Tennis. PS3 titles on display included Heavenly Sword from Ninja Theory Ltd; the action-adventure Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune from Jak & Daxter developer Naughty Dog; Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction from the highly acclaimed Insomniac Games; and the trading card based THE EYE OF JUDGMENT, produced in conjunction with Hasbro and its Wizards of the Coast subsidiary. There was also the opportunity to try your hand at LittleBigPlanet where attendees could design, shape and build levels to their heart’s content before sharing their creativity over the PlayStation Network. If you felt like a realistic basketball experience you could get down and dirty with NBA ’08. PlayStation NetworkSCEA also demonstrated additional games and services which will be available through the PlayStation Network. Attendees were treated to previously unreleased content for MotorStorm, Blast Factor, High Velocity Bowling using SIXAXIS wireless controller, and racing Power GP in addition to previously unannounced games like echochrome and Wipeout HD. As if that was not enough to get your heart in a twitter, new content for the PS3’s 3D avatar-based community, PlayStation Home, was shown including four new living spaces and a new Home Square. PSP fans delightNot to be left out in the cold, PSP fans could check out Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow, the sixth installment in the critically acclaimed Syphon Filter series; the first strategy role-playing game (RPG) for PSP to come from Level-5, Jeanne d’Arc, loosely inspired by the historical tale of Joan of Arc; and SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike designed specifically for PSP featuring a unique interface that allows players to control and coordinate different members of the fireteam while experiencing the action from each soldier’s perspective.
