Manhunt 2 – the fallout after being banned in UK (our gamers views)Thursday 21 Jun 2007 The news that the BBFC had banned Rockstar Games’ Manhunt 2 in the UK has caused waves among the gaming community. The BBFC banned both the PS2 and Wii versions of Manhunt 2 earlier this week, earning the controversial game the title of second game to be refused classification in the UK. The last game to be refused classification by the BBFC was Carmageddon ten years ago. Dubbed by the BBFC to be unremittingly bleak and callous, casually sadistic as well as focusing unrelentingly on stalking and brutal slaying, the BBFC slapped a ban on it and effectively sent it out to pasture. Essentially this ban makes it illegal for the game to be supplied anywhere in the UK. The BBFC went on to state that to issue a certificate to Manhunt 2 on either the Wii or PS2 would result in ‘a range of unjustifiable harm risks, to both adults and minors.’ Taking away the right to decideThe reaction to the ban has been overwhelming and, although somewhat divided, most gamers have reacted with shock that the BBFC has taken the right for gamers to decide what games are offensive away from them. Many commented that they would protest against this decision, stating that not only kids played games and encouraging other gamers to swamp the BBFC with complaints about this decision. Many have realized that this ban will only boost sales of Manhunt 2, citing the initial ban on Manhunt which caused sales to soar as well as GTA, which is a case in point. High profile censorship cases result in higher sales, period. There are also those gamers who have come out in support of the BBFC’s decision, expressing concern over why games such as Manhunt even exist. And you have to agree, they raise a valid point. I don't understand why they don't ban all religious texts being as they are the 'inspiration' for torture, atrocity and murder worldwide... Manhunt sold millions of copies yet where are all the copy-cat killings? This is outrageously patronising to adult gamers.
now that was a silly comment. it's not the text's that kill but the fanatics who decide what those text's mean. As to the rating, this is just another example of were one group of people have decided that adults (both those with and without children) can't make intelligent decisions on there own.
dang, i hate it when i get me english wrong... the ending should be
" decisions on their own." sorry
sigh *hangs head in shame* it's my not me. i'm now going to open my college english book for a refresher....
i still cant believe that they have banned manhunt 2 i am so furious im relly fedup these perants think they rule the entire world. if This game is banned then why has the first one not been. I dont know if its rumers but i read that the company who gives games a age rating are not going to release relly violent games guys sorry but i think gtaiv will never be realesed. Some people need to sort them selfes out and worry about there own kids and stop nagging other perants how to stop them from playing games like manhunt. its fair if they dont want theyere kids to play manhunt that is fine but to stop other peoples kids is totally wrong because now thanks to these people they have stopped it for everyone thats my comment stop worrying about everyone else. if some perants want there kids to play them its up to them but what gives the right to tell people what to do. NOW THEY HAVE RUINED IT FOR EVERYONE. its not fair for everyone to suffer for these perants needs sort it out. FEDUP
The whole point of rating is so that people know what is contained in the media they are buying, an 18 certificate means just that, NO ONE BELOW THE AGE OF 18.....which for some reason the BBFC seem to be forgetting, if kids get their hands on this media it is not the fault of the BBFC, it is the fault of the parent.
the BBFC have banned this game because they want to criminalise the gamer, saying that "if you play this you might go out and copy it" in their own way of course.
it's just stupid, I hope they see all the comments from intelligent gamers who want the ability to choose what they can and can't play. which now seems as if it's just going to be feckin mario and pokemon.......puuuulease
