Brothers in Arms headed for Wii and DS

Friday 06 Apr 2007

Ubisoft and Gearbox Software have announced that the Brothers in Arms franchise is in development for the Nintendo DS and Wii. Brothers in Arms Double Time for the Wii is scheduled to ship this fall while Brothers in Arms DS will ship this summer. Nintendo system owners will for the first time be immersed into WWII through the stories of Sergeants Baker and Hartsock and their squad of paratroopers during the Normandy invasion.

“Brothers In Arms on the Wii and DS systems is really exciting for us,” said Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software. “I am a huge fan of both systems and thrilled about making games for the two platforms. In the entire space of first-person shooters on video game systems, Brothers In Arms really lends itself to both the Wii and DS interfaces. Imagine using the Wii Remote to give actual hand signals or aiming with the DS stylus from a covered position. That’s what you can look forward to with Brothers In Arms Double Time and Brothers In Arms DS.”

Brothers in Arms Double Time

Players can look forward to innovative game play with the Wii Remote in Brothers in Arms Double Time for the Wii. This WWII franchise comes to the Wii combining all 31 playable levels meaning players can play as Sergeants Matt Baker and Joe Hartsock, leading their squad behind enemy lines through the Normandy invasion. Authenticity is guaranteed with players fighting actual Airborne Infantry battles of D-Day which have been accurately recreated using thousands of official photos, maps, After-Action Reports and eyewitness accounts under the direction of Military and Historical Director, Col. John Antal.

Players can expect to engage in challenging and dynamic combat. Brothers In Arms Double Time features close-quarter urban environments and a next-generation artificial intelligence system which promises to take authentic military action to the next level on the Wii system. The game also features an enhanced control scheme with players issuing orders and performing military gestures to command and lead their team using the Wii Remote.

Brothers in Arms DS

Brothers in Arms DS brings the action and the strategy of the series to the handheld, with players using the touch screen to control the squad. This is the first Brothers in Arms for the DS system and has been exclusively designed for the DS with easy to use, stylus based controls such as using the touch screen to aim, with the camera following the stylus. The game play has been adapted to the DS with autocover behind walls and an auto-recovering life system. The DS version features realistic 3D graphics with detailed environments, believable characters and enemies, cinematic camera angles and outstanding animation.

Players can look forward to drivable vehicles ranging from a recon car to a Sherman Tank. Destroy enemies using a wide range of weapons including bazookas, sniper rifles and grenades. Players can relive WWII through 16 missions and three different campaigns ranging from Normandy to North Africa and Ardennes. The DS version features a new multiplayer experience where players can fight multiplayer battles with three friends in different multiplayer modes including Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch. The third person view and dialogue between the soldiers also guarantees that players will experience the drama and emotion involved in WWII.
